How to log in as admin in WordPress?

Afbeelding How to log in as admin in WordPress?

To log in as an admin, you have to go to the backend page of your WordPress website. In many cases, this page can be reached by typing .nl/wp-admin in the browser [domeinnaam]. You can then log in with your chosen username and password.

What information do I need?

Before you can actually log in as an admin, you need some details:

  • The exact URL of the login page: by default, the URL ‘wp-admin’ is chosen. For security reasons, many website operators choose to customize this URL. If this URL has been changed, you should be aware of this.
  • Username: for logging in you obviously need your username. This can be your e-mail address, but this can also be your first name and / or last name. What the username is exactly, can be set entirely to your own liking with the WordPress installation.
  • Password: The username is accompanied by a corresponding password. The advice is to choose a very complex password, including special texts, uppercase letters, lowercase letters and numbers. By choosing a complex password, you improve the security of your website. This password must already be set during the WordPress installation, but can of course be changed afterwards.

Step 1: Navigate to WordPress admin URL

Do you want to log in as an admin in WordPress? Then go to the correct URL. In many cases, this is your domain name followed by the extension, a slash and ‘wp-admin’. However, the latter component differs from website to website. Some website owners choose to change ‘wp-admin’ to, for example, ‘wp-login’. There are also website owners who really choose a completely different URL.

Step 2: Login

Did you enter the correct URL? Then you will now come to the admin login page. This page is not too special, since you can/must only fill in two fields.

First, you need to fill in the username. What this username is, is determined when installing WordPress. For example, this can be ‘Admin’ or ‘Editor’, but this can also be your first name and /or last name.

Secondly, you need to enter the corresponding password. If all goes well, you are the only one who knows what your WordPress password is. In the unlikely event that you have forgotten your own password, you can click on ‘Forgot password’. You will then be taken to a page where you have to enter your username or e-mail address. In your mailbox you will then receive a link with which you can set your new password.
