Website offline, what now?
Often a website goes offline due to a bad update, error in the WordPress code, a full memory or a hack. This can cause you a lot of hassle and stress. Before you have found the problem and have also been able to act on it, you are often a few hours, or even a few days, further. This downtime will not do your name any good and it will cost you (potential) customers. And no customers means no turnover.
When you maintain your WordPress have your website outsourced then it will never happen that your website has multiple lies flat for hours unnoticed. We can say that with certainty because almost every maintenance party does monitoring. Through monitoring your website is constantly monitored, so that immediate action can be taken are undertaken if a mistake has crept in.
How does monitoring work?
In our office there is a monitor on which we keep an eye on all websites. By means of special software, constant checks are carried out to detect unwanted activities. An alarm goes off if a website, which we manage and therefore monitor, has a different status code than 200. That may not tell you anything, but we will immediately take action!
There is always a status code on your website. 200 is good and means that your website is online without any problems. Other well-known status codes include:
- 301 and 302: redirect to a other URL
- 404: page not found, page deleted or wrong URL
- 500: an error in the code (International Server Error)
Why is monitoring important?
If there are problems on your website, you naturally want to know as soon as possible, so that you can also act on them. Because problems on your website will cause problems for your company. In addition to the fact that you miss out on sales, you most likely also throw money away. If your website does not work and your SEA ads are still running, then that is of course a shame for your marketing budget.
What is being watched while monitoring?
During monitoring, several things considering:
Uptime monitoring
Our main task is to keep an eye on the availability of your website, so you always stay online and up-to-date.
Security monitoring:
WordPress is popular, unfortunately also among hackers or automated networks. We always check whether your website is safe and we constantly monitor any risks or strange login attempts. Safety above all else.
Mail and blacklist monitoring
A blacklist is a list of IP addresses or servers that send spam and of course you do not want your company on it. We check whether your e-mails go out the door clean and we regularly check the reputation of your mail server.
Performance and link monitoring
Web performance monitoring is the measurement of a website’s ability to respond efficiently to the actions of its end users. All this has to do with the speed of the service and the user-friendliness. For example, certain web pages may contain dead links. These are links that no longer work, because the page has been given a different URL. That costs you visitors and conversion. We check the status of the various links on your website.
